The LPL and LCK leagues, China and South Korea respectively, are notorious for being home to the best League of Legends teams in the world. These regions combined, have won the last eight of the ten total World Championships.

With each yearly draw comes speculation and debate of which teams will make it out of the Group Stage, and into the final Knockout Stage. As Europe has only won one World Championship, which was the very first one, and North America is yet to win one, western fans are constantly eyeing the teams in hope that they may defeat the dominant Chinese and Korean teams.

This year’s Groups draw brings hope for the European and North American fans, with teams FNATIC (EU), MAD Lions (EU), and Team Liquid (NA), all getting groups that they have the ability to get out of. In order to pass the Group Stage, teams must finish in first or second place for their group.

Unfortunately for European team Rogue, they have once again been placed in the “Group of Death”, which is named after the hardest group to escape. This year’s Group of Death is Group A, which holds teams FPX and DWG. Both teams are previous World Championship winners, 2019 and 2020 respectively, and this year are both looking like the strongest contenders for the title alongside Edward Gaming.

To finalize the groups for the well awaited Group Stage, two teams from each group of the Play-Ins stage will advance forward. The Play-Ins Stage, and hence the League of Legends 2021 World Championships kicks off on October 5th.
