Season 2 Updates Revealed for Warzone 2

At last, the full details for all the content changes coming to Warzone 2: Season 02 have been revealed. Below you’ll find information on all the changes and updates to Warzone 2, including the return of the Resurgence gamemode alongside Points of Interest changes to Al Mazrah in the standard modes.

Resurgence Mode Returns

The well awaited Resurgence mode is returning to Warzone 2.0 in Season 02, featuring a brand new map known as ‘Ashika Island’. This mode will be very similar to the original Warzone’s Resurgence on Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep, but comes with a new feature known as Restore Honor.

In the squad-based gamemodes of Resurgence, players will drop a dog tag the first time they are killed on Ashika Island. This dog tag can be collected by you or your squad for a cash reward, and a brief UAV ping on the map which is said to display supplies and enemy positions.

The Restore Honor feature will be a great way to quickly recuperate your team’s loadouts, and will aid your team in getting well needed revenge on enemy squads.

For those unfamiliar with Resurgence mode, a timer will appear next to eliminated teammates and will count down as long as players in the squad are still alive. Once the countdown is over the eliminated player will be redeployed on the map.

This timer can be reduced by eliminating enemy squads or completing contracts, but as the match progresses the starting countdown will be longer.

Alongside the redeploy timer, fully eliminating enemies will reveal their teammates’ locations on your squad’s minimaps. This feature is best used to quickly eliminate an entire squad before their teammates redeploy.

In-Season Ashika Island Features

Search and Seizure Contract

A new contract will be added to Resurgence on Ashika Island, named Search and Seizure. In this mode your squad must track a stolen vehicle marked on the map, retrieve the key from the guards, and drive the vehicle to a specific destination. The rewards for this contract will most likely be Cash, with potentially a loot drop as well on completion.

Data Heist Public Event

Alongside Search and Seizure comes a new Public Event known as Data Heist. Three uplink stations will appear around the map during the second circle closing, which can be hacked for rewards. You’ll have to defend the station against AI opponents in which eliminating them will speed up the process.

Successfully hacking the uplink stations will reward XP, Cash, and a random piece of Tactical Equipment. Hacking multiple stations results in better rewards such as Killstreaks, and presumably more Cash and other high value equipment.

When contesting enemies taking a station, activate the DDoS Field Upgrade, as this will interrupt the hack and buy you more time to eliminate your enemies and hijack the operation.

Redeploy Drones

A new fast way to traverse the map, known as Redeploy Drones, will be added to Ashika Island throughout Season 2. These appear to be a reskin of the Redeploy Balloons from the original Warzone, which you can zipline up to, and then fly around the map from.

The drones can be locked onto by Launchers, so make sure the coast is clear before attaching to the cable.

Rusher AI Enemy Class

If armored AI and snipers weren’t enough to deal with already, a new class of AI known as Rushers will be joining Ashika Island in Season 2. These enemies will be equipped with a short sword, a pistol, and smoke grenades so they can get close.

Although deadly at close range, Rushers will have low armor making them easy to eliminate with weapons such as the Fennec 45 when approaching you. Definitely check that the coast is clear when reloading, as these new enemies will be most deadly when they creep up behind you.

1v1 Gulag Returns

At last, you will no longer have to rely on the double-edged sword that was the 2v2 Gulag. Now there’s no more getting carried by the experienced players, or losing because your teammate is trying out Warzone for the first time.

Alongside this, the Jailer is also thankfully leaving, and the capture control point will return as the overtime mechanic. This is great to see returning, as enemies were able to take both you and them out of the game by hiding with the previous overtime mechanic.

New ground loot and loadouts will also feature in the Gulag alongside the Pistols, but Shotguns will be leaving for now.

Al Mazrah Map Changes

Afghan Returns to Warzone 2

The Sattiq Cave location on Al Mazrah featured a large portion of the iconic Multiplayer map Afghan, released in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), but was missing the crashed plane which is the most notable part of the map.

The plane has been returned to its rightful spot, which you will be able to find in the Sattiq Cave location in Al Mazrah once Season 02 officially launches.

Passenger Train Coming to Al Mazrah

Alongside the crashed plane come other additions to Al Mazrah, such as the new passenger train. The passenger train will work similarly to the current freight train around the map, but will differ in its accessibility.

Instead of having open cargo carriages like the freight train, the passenger train will be enclosed, featuring passenger, bar, and sleeping carriages to explore.

To access the passenger train, you’ll have to jump in through the skylights on the roof of the carriages, and to travel between them you’ll need to cross through the carriage doors.

Underground Cave Network

In order to fill out some of the very empty and dead areas of Al Mazrah’s desert, such as the areas east of Rohan Oil, an underground cave network will be added to the game.

The new cave system will connect the northern Points of Interest on the map, allowing you to traverse between landmarks in the darkness.

The cave network will contain five entrances similar to that of Sattiq Cave, also featuring drop down and standard cave entrances. There should be plenty of loot to grab along the way, but proceed with caution as there will be many dark corners for enemies to set up an ambush.
