MW2 and Warzone Season 2 Update Changes Revealed

Season 1 has added many great features to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) such as Shoot House, Shipment, Cyber Attack, Raids, and much more. As the season has gone on however, players are looking towards the second season to see what else Activision has in store.

In a recent post to the Call of Duty Blog, Activision has revealed the changes they plan to bring with MWII Season 2 on the 15th of February. This includes bug fixes, UI changes, weapon changes, and updates to Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone.

We’ve condensed the information down into the crucial points found below, but if you’re looking for all the fine details on sections like UI changes, or the DMZ gamemode, check out the blog post in the link above.

User Interface Changes

After months of MWII being released, Activision have finally decided to improve the navigation and organization of the Weapon Camo menu, which has been unnecessarily difficult to find specific camos due to its design.

Other changes coming to the UI include a “more polished Social tab”, recticle previews in the Store and the Gunsmith, a new “My Bundles” screen, alongside other miscellaneous changes.

Weapon Balancing

Weapons will be balanced for Season 2, which is something that will be occurring in most if not all seasonal and mid-season updates. The specific balance changes to the weapons have not yet been released, but we will provide an update once they are.

Warzone 2.0 Changes

Activision have decided to make many exciting changes to Warzone 2.0, which aim to make the game faster paced and more balanced overall.

Gulag Changes

The first change to be made is the return of the 1v1 Gulag which is great to see, because you couldn’t always rely on your random teammate in the 2v2 Gulag.

Another great change coming to the Gulag is the weapon pool, which will now include Assault Rifles, SMGs, and LMGs alongside Pistols. Unfortunately Shotguns will not be in the rotation, which formerly were a very fun way to one tap your way back into the game in the original Warzone.

Cash changes are also coming to the Gulag, which includes a larger Cash reward to the victor, alongside cash spawning as ground loot inside. With deadly Primary Weapons entering the Gulag, it is unlikely that the ground loot will be a priority however.

Cash Changes

Contracts will now have a slightly reduced cash reward on completion, but on the other hand Cash piles on the ground will now be a minimum of $800, and Cash Registers will be at a minimum of $500, up from $100.

Cash can be found on the ground, in containers, and white Stronghold Supply boxes, but will no longer be inside basic or legendary Supply Boxes.

It appears that Activision is dropping the idea of having custom weapons as a luxury, with the coming Cash changes and the reduced cost of Primaries at the Buy Station. We expect it to be easier than ever to get your hands on your Primary Weapons in Season 2.

Loadout Changes

Customizable Perk Packages are finally returning to Warzone, but will launch with a reduced pool of available Perks. Other perks may be slowly reintroduced overtime, but initially the aim is to ensure all available perks are viable choices.

Loadout Drop Markers alongside Primary Weapons have received a reduced price, which should increase the pace of the game as kits are now easier to get your hands on.

3-Plate Vest Changes

Arguably the best change featured in Season 2, all players will now start with a 3-Plate Vest. Vests will no longer be found as loot, aiming to bring “a more reliable feel to each engagement from the get-go”.

This change will be extremely helpful for situations where you are brought back into the game, and will eliminate those unlucky circumstances where you just cannot find a vest anywhere.

Movement Changes

Players will now be able to bash through doors while plating up, the same as if you were sprinting through a door. This is a minor change but may help when seeking cover.

Buy Station Changes

Buy Station spawns are now static across the map, with added and adjusted spawn locations. Alongside this, Loadout Drop Markers now have unlimited stock at the Buy Station.

Stronghold Changes

Strongholds and Black Sites are receiving changes to the rewards for completion, which appears to be a buff but is currently unclear. Alongside this comes adjustments to AI damage to players, which could also buff or nerf them.

Multiplayer Changes

Warzone isn’t the only gamemode with some significant changes coming, as Multiplayer is as well. This will include new gamemodes, weapon balancing, and more.

Audio Adjustments

One type of audio occlusion has been shut off after launch, but will be returning to the game on the 15th with Season 2. Occlusion was still featured in the game, but the more advanced system will be returning to replace it.

Perk Balance Changes

The rate at which bonus and ultimate perks are earned has been updated, with the bonus perk cost being reduced by 50%, and the ultimate reduced by 25%.

This is targeted primarily at the Ghost Perk, which was deemed ineffective by the community due to the extensive time period it took to acquire it.

Weapon Balance Changes

Similarly to Warzone, changes are coming to weapons in Season 2, but have not been revealed yet. Check back here every now and then and we’ll let you know when the official changes are announced.

Hardcore Mode

The fan favorite Hardcore mode will return to Modern Warfare 2, replacing the Tier 1 gamemode. This should bring all the original Hardcore game rules with it, but has not been specifically outlined just yet.

Playlist Changes

Changes coming to Playlists include the return of Valentine’s Day playlists, which formerly featured gamemodes such as “Double Date”, described as “Small team, multi-round cage matches. First team to reach the round win limit wins.”

It is unlikely that all if any of the former gamemodes will return to the Valentines Day playlist however, as some included modes such as Gunfight, which is still yet to return to MWII, and may still not in Season 2.

Multiplayer modes coming to Season 2 will be detailed in either future blog posts or twitter announcements in the coming weeks, so there is still hope for Gunfight fans.

Once a month, a twitter poll will allow fans to vote on playlists from a rotating pool, which we assume will appear for the rest of the week or month.

Ranked Play Returning

Activision is partnering with Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and the Call of Duty league in order to bring Ranked Play to Season 2. Maps, modes, and other features are yet to be outlined.

That covers it for “The Path to Season 02” community updates. Specifics for many of the changes listed above are yet to be revealed so make sure to check back here soon, as we’ll cover all the specifics in a clear and condensed post once changes are outlined.
