Best M4 Loadout in Modern Warfare 2 – Attachments and Tuning for Multiplayer

The M4 Assault Rifle is easily one of the top all-round weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), allowing high movement speed, aim down sight speed, recoil control and damage range.

In order to maximize the multiple talents of the M4, we’ve assembled a very strong build tailored towards fantastic recoil control, whilst also feeling relatively quick with its ADS speed and other mobility stats.

As mentioned in previous guides, the rest of the class is user preference, but if you’re attempting to get scorestreaks or high killstreaks then we’d recommend the Munitions Box as a field upgrade, and Scavenger or Hardline for perks.

Here are the best attachments for the M4, and the relative tuning below.

Best M4 Attachments and Tuning Loadout:

The attachments featured in the build include:

  • Stock: Ravage-8
  • Rear Grip: XTEN Grip
  • Underbarrel: Lockgrip Precision-40
  • Barrel: Hightower 20″ Barrel
  • Muzzle: Komodo Heavy

The Ravage-8 is the best choice of stock for this build as it balances out the negatives of the recoil-based attachments, providing an increase of Sprint Speed and Aim Down Sight Speed primarily.

The XTEN Grip works very similarly to the Ravage-8, but provides Sprint to Fire Speed as opposed to Sprint Speed.

The Lockgrip Precision-40 is our personal favorite choice of underbarrel, as it sets the M4’s spray pattern to be almost completely vertical. This makes it very easy to control the recoil and laser your opponents.

For the barrel we’ve chosen the Hightower 20″ Barrel, mainly due to improved recoil control, with secondary bonuses being an increase in Damage Range and Bullet Velocity. The 14″ Carbine Shroud is another alternative.

By using the Komodo Heavy we can almost completely eliminate horizontal recoil from this gun, as it provides the most horizontal recoil mitigation out of any muzzle attachment available. This in conjunction with the Lockgrip makes recoil a non-existent issue, making the M4 extremely dangerous when on target. Alternatives are the RF Crown and FTAC Castle Comp.

Below is the most optimal tuning for the five attachments featured above. If you’re unsure how to tune, find out how here.
